Rebecca Screentests: Vivien Leigh & Alan Marshal

Laurence Olivier was not the only leading man whom Vivien Leigh tested opposite for the role of “I” in Alfred Hitchcock’s Rebecca (1940). Here she is with actor Alan Marshal reading the part of Max DeWinter.

  1. It’s the acting. If she had been well-directed, I am sure she could’ve pulled it off! Joan Fontaine was not a bad looking woman either but she was so convincing.
