Celebrating 5 years of Vivien Leigh and Laurence Olivier appreciation

Happy Easter, and happy 5th birthday to vivandlarry.com! This little space of Vivien Leigh, Laurence Olivier and classic cinema appreciation officially went live on April 8, 2007, and it’s come a long, long way since then. I owe a huge thanks to all of you who visit and have interacted over the years, but I’d rather tell you face-to-face…

I’ve never posted a video of myself on youtube before but I guess there’s a first time for everything! Thanks again to all of you who have continuously returned to the site, and welcome to those of you who are just discovering it. I hope you all stick around for more fun things here at vivandlarry.com, and I’ll be posting some new photos over on the facebook page later today.

Love,

Kendra

  1. I’ve been a classic Hollywood lover for only a year and a half and a Viv and Larry fan for about three months. I visit your page because it has a whole lot of information on both of them and through it all I get to know them better and love them even more. It’s amazing how much work you put into this site, finding all these information and photos and facts and I really think you should be proud of yourself because you brought so much joy to millions of Viv and Larry fans. Thank you for this wonderful site!! I love it!

    1. Thanks, Franka! I’m so glad you’ve discovered Viv and Larry and are interested in them, as well as classic films in general. Thanks for visiting!

  2. Happy Easter to you as well Kendra. Hope you feel better. It sounds like your getting a British accent. Which is AWESOME!

What brings me back time and time again. Hmm, that’s a good question and a hard one to answer. I would say probably because you have so much info on Viv and Larry and that you keep it updated quite often. I also find it fascinating that you know there are other people out there that love them as much as yourself. That is probably why your site is one of my top favorite’s on my favorite’s bar. Thanks for everything that you do Kendra. Keep up the great work because you have a lot of fans out there!

    1. Aww thanks! I’m not really, it’s just because of my cold, I think (although I wish I was acquiring a new accent!).

Definitely one of the best and most rewarding things about having this site is having met a lot of really cool people because of it. But also, I hope everyone who visits feels the same–it’s always good to know that other people share your interests!

      1. Your welcome:) It sure sounds like it though.

I had someone tell me one time that they were shocked that I loved classic movies. They told me not a whole lot of people my age like or really know about classic movies. Which is so sad:( If it wasn’t for my grandma and her gentleman friend I don’t think I would have fallen for them like I have. Oh and when do you think your book will be out? I know you just sent the first draft out. I’m just curious:) I’m definitely going to buy it when it gets over here in the states:D

  3. Congratulations on 5 years. You should really be proud of your work. I hope it continues for years to come.

    Happy Easter!

  4. Congrats Kendra! Your site has always been one of my favorites; a constant source of inspiration and awesome information about Viv & Larry 🙂

  5. You know only too well how much I love and appreciate this site. I’ve discovered it about two years ago and sice then it’s my top favourite .It is exciting not only because it keeps alive the memory of a fabulous couple of the show business ( to me sir Laurence is even more than this, he is simply the greatest of them all) but also because people from different countries , of different generations can share experiences and make friends easily because they share the same interests-.For all this , thank you Kendra, please do keep up this precoius work- and happy Easter to you and all fellow fans all over the world!!

    1. Thanks, Rita! I’m glad you feel the same way about getting to “meet” other people because of this shared interest, whether it’s online or in real life. I definitely appreciate the community aspect of it! Happy Easter 🙂

  6. First of all, congratulations Kendra. The website is remarkable, not only in what design is concerned, but specially for the espectalucar amount of information that it shares with all of us.

About the main reason i visit the website, well, in my personal experience, coming here (or receiving the daily facebook gems that you share) leaves me a very bizarre feeling. Bizarre in a good way, in a way that it seems we are seeing news and photos of someone that is still alive, even phisically. I think that when a blog or site about a public figure manages to do so, it illustrates the superior quality of how it is managed.
We are talking about people that have been (phisically) dead for more than 50 years, at least in Vivien’s case and still, everyday a new thing is read and learnt. That is what memory preservation is all about, and vivandlarry does so beautifully.

    Thank you Kendra

    1. Thank you! With so much info and so many photos of these people to share, I like doing daily updates on facebook–it’s like giving people a daily dose of pretty on their news feed! But seriously, thank you so much for the kind words. It makes me happy because preserving their memories is exactly what I set out to do in the begining.

  7. Congratulations Kendra! I can’t believe it’s been five years already! I knew what this website would be become when you made it and the quality it could become. It really is the best website/informational place dedicated to these two wonderful people that I know of. You should be proud of all the hard work you have put into it. Thank you for this wonderful place! <33333

    1. Thanks, Ashley! I can;t believe it either–I never expected it to last this long or evolve so much. It’s kind of taken on a life of its own over the years, and has grown so much, I can’t help but be proud of it 🙂

  8. I’ve adored Vivien Leigh ever since I first saw her in “Gone with the Wind” when I was 8. Admittedly, since I was so little, I think I got her as an individual and Scarlett a little mixed up, but only insofar as the elements of Vivien which showed through her performance: her fire, her ruthless determination, her beauty, her keen mind. It was the sort of woman I wanted to be, and over the years, reading as many biographies as I could get my hands on, watching as many films as I could, I grew to respect her and her incredible courage and passion.

She’s still by far the most fascinating person I’ve read about, and among the things which draws me back to the website is not only the honest work you’ve done with documents, but the wonderful photographs I’ve never seen before, the clips you find, the stories you unearth, and little haven for the love she shared with Larry, which is just wonderful. You’ve done an incredible job maintaining a beautiful, detailed, and accurate website which serves to give the fans something to drool over and educate those who aren’t in the know…yet.

Thank you Kendra for the wonderful years of service you’ve put in to give us this page. I’ve been coming to this site since the beginning, and I look forward to enjoying your efforts in future.

    xx

    1. What a lovely comment! That visitors experience what I set out to do with this site is really important to me and makes me so happy. Thanks for sticking with it from the beginning!

  9. I am really grateful for the vivandlarry website mainly because it made it possible for us to get to know each other! I can’t imagine anyone better than you to preserve the memory of Vivien and Larry, your thirst for knowledge and constant desire to know and understand them is incredible; i truly admire you for it. I hope the site keeps on going for many years to come and can’t wait for your book!

    1. I feel the same way–I’m so glad we met up, you’re one of my favorite people! Thanks for all the encouragement over the past few months. And now to finish editing that Ava essay! 😉

  10. Can’t believe that this site has been up and going for 5 years! I remember discovering the site sometime in 2007, so I guess that was shortly after you started it.

Vivien Leigh and Laurence Olivier were my first “classic film loves”. And your site is one of the best classic film fan sites out there. You obviously put a lot of time, research, dedication, and love into it. Thank you!

Do I detect a slight English accent in your voice? Or is that just your cold?

    1. I can’t believe it, either! Time flies when you’re having fun. Thanks for the comment and I’m pretty sure the accent is just my cold 🙂

  11. Congratulations Kendra, and Happy Birthday Vivandlarry.com! 🙂
I think your passion and love towards classic cinema and VIv & Larry are inspiring. It’s something that I admire every time I visit your website.
I never considered myself a real fan of Vivien Leigh (I knew who she was and her main film roles), until I learned so much about her through your site (and photo posts on LJ, back in the day haha).
I know your book will happen and will be a great ‘hit’!
Thanks to you too for your awesome website!

  12. Dear Kendra,
Congrats on five years, that ‘s awesome! I can’t tell you how much I appreciate all you do to keep the memories of Viv and Larry alive.I love the sight for “new” pictures and the great articles. Sometimes I even learn something new! I also like to read other peoples comments and how much they appreciate the sight as well. Keep up the good work, and by the way, love the video!

  13. Kendra, you DO sound english… Even I can hear that !!! A california-ish accent… Thanks for your video and your message to all your fans-followers… Your site is like a little home, where we talk of Vivien and Larry, mainly, but also of different other subjects. It’s cosy and friendly, always filled with new infos and ideas. Thanks for your welcome and letting us visiting. T.

ps : I have to go back to school. The “captcha” asked me to add 5 four… I wrote 6 🙁

    1. It’s just my sinuses being blocked that’s tricking everyone–I don’t have an English accent, although I wish I did! Maybe if I stay here long enough. What I do have is a very California accent!

I’m so glad you find this site to be a home for sharing a mutual passion for cinema! It’s what I’ve always dreamed would happen–that there would be a community formed around it in which people can discover that they are not alone in their interests. I’ve met so many amazing people through this, whether just online or in real life–it’s definitely the most rewarding bit 🙂

  14. Kendra!!! Congratulations! I’m so happy for you and proud of you. You’ve accomplished SO MUCH in the last 5 years, and I feel lucky to have been under the same roof as you when the site was created. Kendra: “Um, so I’m learning Dreamweaver to make a website.” Tatiana: “Say whaaaat! What’s Dreamweaver?” Oh how our lives have changed. You’re passion is inspiring and contagious! Love you tons and congrats again! Miss ya!

    1. Tati! It warmed my heart to see your comment. *Meeeemories, like the smiles we left behiiiind* We have come a long way since the days of learning Dreamweaver, haven’t we? Ah, web design, and now you’re doing this sort of thing for a living! I’m proud of you! Your craftiness and free spiritedness is definitely a source of inspiration on this end. I miss you, too and hope to see your face soon either back home or here in foggy London town! <3

  15. What a charming idea you had ! Thank you for that little “personal” message… Well, if so many people come back visiting, you deserve the praise… I am fascinated with Vivien Leigh and everything about her (including Larry) since I am 15 (I am 46 now) -when I first read GWTW, and i didn’t know who Vivien Leigh was… I didn’t stop asking questions about her to my Mom, if she knew her movies, her life, etc… then I started collecting books and photos about her and GWTW (and at that time I had not yet seen the film !! In France it was released very scarcely, every 10 years or so)… So you can guess why I love your website, blog, Facebook page, etc… It is a major source of info, news, images about Vivien and Larry… And it is nice to share this passion with other people from all around the world… It is great to see a young lady, full of ideas, taking the reins of this project… So, unlike the Titanic, of which we celebrate the tragic end today, I wish that your little boat will go far, far away…
    Sincerely, Eric

    1. Thanks, Eric, I hope this site goes on longer than the Titanic, as well 😉 I find it really amazing how many people have been fascinated by Vivien since they were children, and how that fascinations has stuck with them into adulthood. That’s true lasting power!

  16. Kendra! Thank you so much for creating this amazing and lovely website. I’ve been a Vivien and Larry fan since I was 10 and that was back when we had crappy AOL internet connections and next to no information about these lovely people. Your website has changed that and I’m so thrilled I have a place to learn more about my favorite actors and am able to learn new things everyday. It not only allows me to keep my classic film interests alive but also relive my childhood of adoring old movies and being the freak kid in school who liked black and white films. Thank you Kendra for everything. I do love your Calfornia/British accent you’ve got going there. Cheers from another Californian (who wishes she had a Cali/Brit accent). PS I think I still owe you some SEM tips which I will send one day. I promise. All the best!

    1. Haha aww, crappy dial-up internet, how did we ever live with that? That’s about the time I became interested in Larry and Vivien, as well. Perhaps we are around the same age?

I’m so glad the site provides so much for you and that it allows you to keep your interests alive–that’s so important, I think. I don’t know where I’d be without classic films.

PS, the accent is because of my cold, I assure you 🙂
